Week 1 report:

week one was tough, being admitted a few days late into the week did not do me any favours. Missing out on the lecture, it was up to me to catch up and self-learn what was taught through the slides that Mr JR had provided. they were beautifully made, featuring the likes of one of my favourite bands the Gorillaz, which  was a nice touch. it was fascinating to learn about the differences between dreams and imagination and how they integrate into fashion and our everyday lives. Additionally, an unfamiliar term was brought to light, unconventional fashion.

Tasked with making a presentation about the aforementioned mental phenomena an d the newly discovered term, I began my research. Unconventional fashion is an uncharted realm for me, it was like opening up to a new undiscovered world of personality. Filled with creativity and loud non-verbal speech, I was honestly overwhelmed. Moreover, we were tasked with finding 3-5 unconventional fashion techniques that we'd like to experiment with. After some digging, I took a liking to the punkcore styles of tucking, patchwork, and applique.

It was then I had to scout for the supplies I needed for class. With helpful tips from my classmates, I ventured out and acquired the things I needed, they were not cheap by any means but it's a small price to pay for the benefits I'm about to gain from the course ahead.

Week 2 report:

We began the week with our class on Monday morning. It was my first time being in the studio and it was wonderful meeting my classmates; getting to know them and seeing how all their journeys led to this classroom. Shortly after, my instructor entered the room, filled with enthusiasm and passion for the topic he's teaching. We were tasked with fabric manipulation - making 3 unorthadox sheets of fabric by using literally anything as our creativity was out limit.

Being a big fan of punk culture, I opted to use red, black, and white zippers and safety pins for my first piece. synthesising a weave of some sort with the zippers and having the safety pins to hold them down. It was a laborious process and scrounging around for the materials was a tad difficult, especially the zippers., However, I do think it paid off.

Week  3 report:

Continuing on from last week, we continued on with our sample pieces. Mr Jr recommended some advice regarding my sample piece and I began work on it immediately. Listening to his advice, my piece turned out beautifully. I am glad to say that my first piece is completed.

At home, I used my time to think about the materials I would need for my next sample piece. Sticking with my punk theme, I figured that a red and black flannel and denim would be wonderful additions to my next piece, a nice bit of evolution. Cutting up old jeans into strips and using a flannel shirt as my base, I began my work into sample piece 2.

Week 4 Report:

Over the week, I finished sample 2 and 3. The results were fantastic! The third sample strayed away from the weave pattern but kept characteristics of the previous 2, namely the colourway and overall theme. It had a new material however, water buffalo leather; kept in place by using parcel rope forming a corset like look.

Week 5 report:

This week, we were taught about what a mood board is. From my understanding, it helps visualize the our thought process behind our creation and its evolution. Additionally, we were tasked with a few things, firstly draping. To place our samples on a mannequin to form 10 different looks and take photos of them. With my samples, the looks I formed had a very grunge/punk appeal to them, which I think looked great,

Week 6 report:

For this week’s assignments, Mr Jr instructed us to develop and sketch out 10 initial designs from the drawings we did in the previous week. Currently saving up for an iPad, I went ahead and did these designs physically by printing out the drapings in colour on an A3 paper and drawing over them. In addition, we were also instructed to create a PowerPoint about our subject matter; allowing us to delve deeper into it with research and to showcase what they are to onlookers.

Lastly, we we were also tasked with creating a mood board. A poster of sorts to display our theme/subject matter with only one image.

Week 7 report:

With excellent help, I finished my mood board. Something I’m truly proud off as it looked positively stunning. Moreover, I finalised my ten initial drawings and decided on the 3 looks that I’ll develop; 5 each, making a total of 15 in the end.

Week 9:

After returning from the break, I already finished the 15 idea developments and with Mr Jr's opinion, I had finalized the 2 looks I would bring into reality.
