Task 2 Fabric Manipulation and Texture samplings: Week 1-3

Task 2:

As part of a project assigned to us, we were given the task of fabric manipulation. Our challenge was to create three unique sheets of fabric using anything we could think of as our creativity had no limits.

As a big fan of punk culture, I decided to incorporate the elements of this genre into my first piece. I used red, black, and white zippers and safety pins to create a unique weave of sorts. The safety pins were used to hold the zippers securely in place while adding a grunge aesthetic to it.

The process of creating this piece was laborious, and finding the necessary materials was a bit challenging especially the zippers. However, I believe that all the effort and hard work paid off in the end as the final result looked impressive and unique.

After receiving Mr Jr's valuable advice, I was eager to put it into practice and see how my sample piece would turn out. I spent a good amount of time working on it, making sure to incorporate all the suggestions he had given me. And I have to say, the result was truly impressive. I was pleased with how it turned out, and it gave me a sense of accomplishment to have completed my first piece.

When I got back home, I started to think about my next sample piece. I wanted to continue with the punk theme that I had started with the first one, and I decided that incorporating a red and black flannel along with some denim would be a great addition. I gathered all the materials I needed and got down to work. Using an old flannel shirt as my base, I started cutting up old jeans into strips and incorporating them into my design. It was a fun and creative process, and I was excited to see how it would turn out in the end.

During the course of the week, I was able to complete both sample 2 and 3. I must say, the outcome was nothing short of fantastic! While the third sample deviated from the initial weave pattern, it still retained the same characteristics as the previous two samples. This included the colour scheme and overall theme. However, the third sample had a new material incorporated into it - water buffalo leather. The leather was held in place by using parcel rope which resulted in a corset-like appearance. Overall, I was very pleased with the outcome of both samples and can't wait to see how they will be received.
