Aden's Task 1 Research and Design construction: Week 4-6

Task 1:

Starting off this creative adventure, we needed to figure out what our collection was all about. It was made clear that it would revolve around two main themes: Unconventional and Dreams and Imagination.

To kick things off, we made two mind maps to dig into what these themes meant. We wanted to get a good handle on the nitty-gritty details. Then came the fun part—picking a subject matter. I went with punk fashion because, hey, I'm into it. But that meant diving deep into research to get a good grip on punk fashion's history and style.

Mind Maps:

Subject matter research: As an avid enjoyer of history, it’s the part where I had the most fun, digging through punk history as a whole and going way back into the past was exhilarating. Seeing its humble beginnings and what is derived from truly was an opportunity I could not let up.

Next up, we needed a way to show off our ideas, so I present the mood board. Think of it like a visual brainstorm—picking out images, colours, and vibes that captured the feel we were going for.

But it's not just about looks; we wanted to tell a story. So, we wrote up a conceptual story to help people get what inspired our collection. It's like giving them a backstage pass to the creative process

Now comes the part where things start to take shape. We dive into sketching out our initial designs—10 of them to be exact—for the two looks we're aiming for. But before we get into that, we've got to pick three designs to flesh out a bit more. That means we're doing five extra drawings for each of these chosen three.

Ten Initial designs

After all that sketching and expanding, we reach decision time. Out of the fifteen drawings, we've got the chance to choose just two to turn into actual, wearable pieces. It's the final step, where our ideas leap off the paper and become real-deal outfits.
