Final project 2 looks: Week 9 - 13

Image
Week 9 is the big moment where all our choices come together. We start by checking out the technical drawings for our two looks. With a hand from Ms. Melina, we jump into turning those designs into real-life patterns. I'm taking it slowly, handling one look at a time to keep things clear and straightforward. It's all about making sure each pattern gets the attention it needs as we turn our fashion ideas into the real deal. With the patterns in hand, I dived into crafting the top for my first look. Staying true to the sustainability goal, I opted to repurpose flannel sourced from thrifted shirts as the outer layer. After cutting the pieces, it was time to fire up the sewing machine and bring it all together. Once everything was stitched together, the next step was to add the lining. Unfortunately, I found myself without the right lining material, so I had to borrow some from a classmate. The catch, though, was that the only available colour was white, which didn't quite matc...

Aden's Task 1 Research and Design construction: Week 4-6

Task 1: Starting off this creative adventure, we needed to figure out what our collection was all about. It was made clear that it would revolve around two main themes: Unconventional and Dreams and Imagination. To kick things off, we made two mind maps to dig into what these themes meant. We wanted to get a good handle on the nitty-gritty details. Then came the fun part—picking a subject matter. I went with punk fashion because, hey, I'm into it. But that meant diving deep into research to get a good grip on punk fashion's history and style. Mind Maps: Subject matter research: As an avid enjoyer of history, it’s the part where I had the most fun, digging through punk history as a whole and going way back into the past was exhilarating. Seeing its humble beginnings and what is derived from truly was an opportunity I could not let up. Next up, we needed a way to show off our ideas, so I present the mood board. Think of it like a visual brainstorm—picking out images, colours, and...

Task 2 Fabric Manipulation and Texture samplings: Week 1-3

Image
Task 2: As part of a project assigned to us, we were given the task of fabric manipulation. Our challenge was to create three unique sheets of fabric using anything we could think of as our creativity had no limits.  As a big fan of punk culture, I decided to incorporate the elements of this genre into my first piece. I used red, black, and white zippers and safety pins to create a unique weave of sorts. The safety pins were used to hold the zippers securely in place while adding a grunge aesthetic to it.  The process of creating this piece was laborious, and finding the necessary materials was a bit challenging especially the zippers. However, I believe that all the effort and hard work paid off in the end as the final result looked impressive and unique. After receiving Mr Jr's valuable advice, I was eager to put it into practice and see how my sample piece would turn out. I spent a good amount of time working on it, making sure to incorporate all the suggestions he had give...

Aden's Blog

Aden's Blog Week 1 report: week one was tough, being admitted a few days late into the week did not do me any favours. Missing out on the lecture, it was up to me to catch up and self-learn what was taught through the slides that Mr JR had provided. they were beautifully made, featuring the likes of one of my favourite bands the Gorillaz, which  was a nice touch. it was fascinating to learn about the differences between dreams and imagination and how they integrate into fashion and our everyday lives. Additionally, an unfamiliar term was brought to light, unconventional fashion. Tasked with making a presentation about the aforementioned mental phenomena an d the newly discovered term, I began my research. Unconventional fashion is an uncharted realm for me, it was like opening up to a new undiscovered world of personality. Filled with creativity and loud non-verbal speech, I was honestly overwhelmed. Moreover, we were tasked with finding 3-5 unconventional fashion techniques ...
